God's Toolbox-June 2010

The past 8 months have been a difficult journey full of lots of heartache...but thankfully, God is not only the Creator of our hearts, but also the Fixer. I wrote this reflecting on something very significant God taught me in the process. I had only shared it with a few people, but realized if it can encourage someone else, there is no reason to keep it to myself! So here it is, I hope as you reflect on the truth of Who God is and what He is capable of, this can encourage you as well. Be blessed, my friends! :)

"Why is it we think so highly of ourselves that we assume we have what it takes to repair our own hearts that God Himself fashioned and created? We pull our our human toolbox. We hammer down our desires, afraid to dream what God has placed inside us, in order to fix our own heart-we try to level out the garbage in our lives by adding good into the mix to attain a sense of peace, false as it may be. We add our own screws to hold things in place that are feeling shaky; things we are afraid to lose. We saw things off that are inconvenient for us in a never-ending attempt to fix, fix, fix.

The tool we need to remember, the one that truly counts, does not come out of our toolbox, but from Christ's. His three nails, used to hold Him to the cross in His selfless sacrifice to redeem our brokeness, are the only necessary tools to fix a broken, hurting, painful, not at-rest heart, because it was there that He bore all our pain and suffering, of the past, present, and future. It has already been conquered and not only conquered but replaced with life to the fullest in Christ.

So next time you are tempted to dig through your human toolbox in effort to self-remedy your heart, think of the One who created your heart; remember Who's tools are rerquired, and run to Him. He is fully capable of maintaining what He has created to a degree we never could on our own."
