My God is So Big !

This week we began a 'read through the Bible in 1 year' plan. Philip and I had both thought about doing this but had not talked to the other about it, and then there was our Pastor who had made the plans and arrangements for us to go through this! Amazing how our Loving Father whispers to the hearts of those who listen-those who want to hear. It was enough confirmation for us that God was, indeed, asking us to do that.

Okay that by itself makes me so excited! There is never a time that God will ask you repeatedly to do something that He doesn't have His hand completely in an over. So if He asks-DO! Alright, so we started reading in Genesis. I, like many of you, have read the account of creation more times than I can remember. But this time, for some reason, I just couldn't get over the awesomeness...literally, in AWE of my God. Check this out:

Did you ever have to study plants or animals in Biology? I was all excited when I got to High School because I loved animals and first year was Biology! Naive? You bet! Haha. I qualified for all honors classes, but Mom and Dad knew I'd hate the extra work and projects so the put my in Advanced classes across the board and let me pick one honors class. I hated Math and History (I love History now! But not math...NEVER math!) And loved science. So honors Biology it was! Turns out I hated honors classes and High School Science. I just wanted to do cool experiments -I didn't want to make genetic boxes, dissect a frog, and listen to someone tell me about how we didn't come from a Creator. I did begin to realize as we deeply studied an amoeba, however, just how intense and very powerful my magnificent Creator is!

That amoeba-a tiny piece of what a single cell is made up of-had little parts of its own. Unbelievable. From the amoeba, to the cell, to the tissues, substances, organs, systems, brain, heart...to a human life. So there is us...and then there are plants. Ever study plants? They are amazing...what they need is based on the environment God placed them in. Orange trees don't grow in Canada. (I know, bummer!) And if you've ever tried to grow blueberries here, it can be quite the struggle! When sun hits their leaves, it makes chlorophyll, or plant food. Roots are underground so they are protected, just like our insides are protected by skin. That soil underground is able to offer water because of its dark environment. The plant was created to be both above and blow ground. Trees are made to hibernate in areas that have cold winters so they can continue living. When the tree stops making chlorophyll, the leaves turn back to their color when they make no chlorophyll. Then of course there are animals too...over 200 KINDS of beetles! (Gross, huh!) The variety, the detail, the specifics...all HIS design and His doing.

So in Genesis I was struck by a phrase used over and over- "And so it was." God made a decision, and so it was. Guys, do you GET that?? AND SO IT WAS. God decided to protect you-and so it was. God decided to forgive you-and so it was. God decided to send His Son for you-and so it was. God said you are called. And so you are. God said you are equipped, and so you are. God said those who call on My name and repent and are saved and belong to ME, and so you do. He said He was victorious-and so He is. AMEN! And so He is.

The Almighty hand of God, simply speaking something, and SO IT WAS. I think it's time we start taking God at His word-He says He will provide (and so it was! more on this later). He says He is sufficient (and so He is!) He says He is all we need...AND SO HE IS. He is it. What He says goes; from calling the stars into existence, spanning them unfathomable distances away from each other and us, all the way down to the arrangement of the amoeba. Myself included, I think we do not take Him at His Word enough...maybe because we don't know His word? Maybe because our sinful nature is wired to not trust God? (which we also see take place in the Garden), or, maybe just because we do it without thinking and haven't sat down and examined our hearts in a while. Whatever the reason, I think it deserves our attention.

This is our God-the one who created every detail, and spoke it into existence. He's so big and so able.

Just today, Philip was dropping off one of his hvac deliveries and just as he was getting back into his truck, the owner says "Hey! You want some beef? Do you guys eat that?" Every year this guy buys a portion of a cow and this year, for some reason, he told Philip they had not finished up their meat and it was time to get the next years' worth and he needed the freezer space.

What this man didn't know, was that our very tight budget doesn't allow for much meat. It's expensive and an easy thing to cut out, so we do so without a problem. We just started Whole30, which includes several meals a week with meat. A while back we won a gift card for Hyvee and we used it for meat. That meat was about to run out in the next little bit. You see, this health journey we've undertaken is spiritual one-we want our bodies to be in submission to God in EVERY area. This was a huge provision to help make this happen! I wasn't sure how we were going to get the groceries we needed to complete Whole30, but felt prompted and had prayed over our groceries in the parking lot of Aldi on Monday before I went shopping. I prayed He would guide me what to buy and what not to buy. I prayed for His provision, lifted my head and walked in with a smile, knowing He'd come through again.

I did not buy any meat! I figured we would wait on that and see how far I could stretch what we have. (A guy at Philip's work gave us a turkey a while back that he didn't need, which enabled us to have the meat to begin this program!) So here comes Philip home with more than enough meat to cover dinners for the next month and beyond! And wouldn't you know it; our old freezer in the garage was just about empty so we even had room ready! Every detail-He's in them all.

See, none of these people knew our need. They aren't friends; only people Philip runs into at work. He has not been walking around asking for meat, Haha! They are not believers, and yet look what God did. He moved through them, to meet our needs. He moved through them to meet us right where we are and provide in the most obscure, beautiful way! He promises in His word to provide for our needs, and friends, LOOK WHAT GOD HAS DONE! We stepped out to do this plan to honor Him and He came through, as HE always does.

My heart rejoices...maybe you think it's no big deal, but it is-these are the miracles we forget to rejoice over-that we forget to celebrate and share. When I consider the timing, the prayers, the needs...it is a miracle. It's the hand of God moving in and over our lives in every detail. The takeaways from this?

1. Find out Who God is in His Word. Find out what His promises are!
2. Look for the "daily miracles". What has been done in your life lately that was a move of God?
3. Watch in awe at the way God works-even using people who don't know Him to unknowingly carry out His plan!

It's a mighty God we serve. Be encouraged as you remember and dig into this Truth!
Until next time...
