"Ezer" -Sustainer Beside Him...

I'm rereading the book "Captivating" by John and Stasi Eldredge. The passage I was looking at looks at the words "ezer kenegdo" which is what God called Eve when He made her, after noting it was not good for man to be alone. The book explains that translations of "helper" or "companion" lack the significance that is represented. It goes on to state that the word "ezer" is only used 20 other places in the entire Old Testament, and each other time it is God who is being described, when we really need Him to come through for us.

Examples: "We wait in hope for the Lord, He is our help and our shield." Psalm 33:20;  "My help comes from the Lord, Maker of Heaven and Earth." Psalm 121:2     So that is the huge, wonderful, and perfect version of what He built in us...to be a "helper" in that way. That's incredible! But it gives so much meaning to the deep things in my heart-what I desire to be and do...it was so specifically designed! How can you look at this and wonder if God sees you or cares? He most certainly values us to the nth degree!

Wow, That really rocked me...God used the same words that He uses to describe how He comes through for us to describe the design He had behind His creation of Eve. It's not to say that we elevate ourselves to God's level-absolutely not. But it IS to say that He built certain aspects of His character into us, wanting us to know our value in and through Him.

It is really neat to understand things that are deep rooted in your heart...and to know they came straight from your Heavenly Father. It's my dream, hope, and prayer for my future (and has been for years) to be this very thing in the life of my future mate; a "sustainer beside him" as it's translated...but in the meantime, I will not be a "passive wait-er" but someone who actively loves and serves the Lord with all my being and lives life to the fullest, knowing there is so much to glean from every season and situation of life.  I want to be ready and all that God desires me to be when that time comes in order to be a blessing, and to honor my Heavenly Father...

Wow, opened up a lot on here today. Feeling a little vulnerable, but that's okay. I hope something on here encourages someone...that is always my hope with these! Dig into Christ during "waiting" times...He has something for you in EVERY season and loves you more than you'll ever know...

Blessings, friends.
